a christmas communion 05.12.
long since established as a stable part of london folk’s folk diet, communion has come to leeds and they’ve a christmas special tomorrow, sunday 6th december, at the library.

born at the notting hill arts club in the summer of ‘06, communion was founded by friends ben lovett and kevin jones. names sound familiar? i’m not surprised. ben makes up one quarter of the magnificent mumford and sons, whilst kevin played bass for cherbourg who, sadly, split last month.
communion quickly grew into a community of musicians and fans alike, providing a platform for many artists who have since gone on to bigger and better things. over the years the likes of noah and the whale, laura marling, johnny flynn and, indeed, mumford and sons have all graced the communion stage, and 2009 sees the night (and, now, record label too) spread its wings as far north as leeds and further south in brighton.
communion leeds launched at the library last month, with ellen and the escapades and yonderboy amongst others on the line-up, and celebrates christmas there before it moves to the wonderful if slightly overlooked the adelphi in the new year. the holiday line-up and stage times are as follows..

10.00 - close rodney fisher
9.20 - 9.45 bruno merz
8.45 - 9.10 happy red tractors
8.15 - 8.35 david henshaw
7.50 - 8.05 richard rowan-robinson
as a christmas treat, the lovely guys behind communion are giving away a pair of tickets. to win, simply post a comment below telling me how long it took mumford and sons to sell out their recent christmas fair at st martin in the fields in trafalgar square. i’ll give you a clue.. there is a leeds band with the answer in their noodles, sorry, name.
the competition closes at midday tomorrow, sunday 6th. the winner will receive an email and their name will be on the guestlist.
tickets can be had from all of the usual places, and are £5 on the door. doors are at 7.30pm.
